About curriculART
Gail Fox and Anne Hutchison have worked in art education in Primary Schools in the City of York for twenty years. Both are practising artists and educators with strong business backgrounds and art-based degrees.

They are passionate about bringing more creativity into children's every day lives. From their work devising and running art workshops with children they have gained experience using and promoting creativity to enhance curriculum learning.

About Creativity
We believe all children are inherently creative. They need a strong creative foundation to help them develop into thinking and interesting adults. Children learn more easily and effectively when they are being creative. Creative power can be nurtured at every opportunity.

Art comes out of exposure to and experience of different materials, ideas and visual stimuli. Creativity encourages independent thinking and an enquiring mind. It helps children solve problems and challenge normal assumptions about things.

“Children learn better by doing, rather than being told”.

About curriculART
Projects in the curriculART website will encourage children to :

  • Experiment creatively
  • Improve hands on & observational skills
  • Express feelings and ideas
  • Reuse and Recycle
  • Investigate new materials….

….and in addition

curriculART will save teacher time

“For creativity to flourish, it needs to be built into the whole-school ethos.…..” curriculART aims to provide pathways for teachers to weave creativity into the fabric of their existing schemes of work and lesson plans.

'Creative pupils need creative teachers, creative teachers need creative resources.'

Quotations from The Primary National Strategy.

A lot of our projects use recycled materials, whether from everyday throw-aways or from Gail's regular skip diving exercises! The trouble is, we never throw anything in the bin. Or if we do, we rush back in after it and grab it back. You will have to turn your classroom into a collection point for all sorts of extraneous matter that you can then turn into gorgeous artworks.......go on, and let us know any new and different ideas you come up with.

Acknowledgements
We have spent hours, days, weeks and months preparing all the materials, taking photographs and trying out projects for curriculART, that we have had to steal QT from our families. We would like to acknowledge this publicly and thank them from the bottom of our heart and beg their continued indulgence.

Luke Archer has created our stunning graphics. His talents and patience with our changing goalposts have been invaluable.

We would like to thank Mary Fedden and Jake Attree, reknowned living artists for their permission to use their work in the curriculART website.

We would like to thank Science City York and Debbie Girdlestone in particular, along with The Merchant Adventurers and Tony Robards, for continued professional advice and support throughout the development of our company. Business Link and Lynne Martin deserve our gratitude for supportive and friendly advice.
